Relish Food Hall and Pickleball

Relish Food Hall + Pickleball

How do you turn a former big-box store into a place people want to stay?

By transforming it into a social destination where food, play, and outdoor gathering create a strong sense of place.

Meet Relish Food Hall + Pickleball, a new Boulder County pickleball club and culinary destination. Part of the growing “eatertainment” trend across the Front Range, the venue brings together sports, food, and community under one roof. A vacant big-box store, once a Sam’s Club, has been reimagined as Relish Food Hall & Pickleball, an 88,000-square-foot destination where sport, food, and community come together under one roof. Working with an interdisciplinary team led by Swan Dive Design Studio and Engine 8, Dig Studio helped transform the site into an active social landscape that extends the building’s energy outdoors and reconnects the former retail giant with its community.

At the north edge of the building, large pivoting glass doors open to a generous indoor-outdoor patio that acts as Louisville’s “front porch.” Shade-covered banquettes, bar seating, and flexible gathering areas spill from the food hall into a landscape of low-water, four-season pollinator gardens and subtle screening walls that soften views of surrounding parking areas while creating comfortable microclimates. A continuous palette of materials and color stitches interior and exterior spaces together, making the patio feel like a seamless extension of the food hall and an open-air setting for casual dining, conversation, and post-match celebrations.

Beyond the patio, the site unfolds as a sequence of outdoor rooms designed for everyday activation. An event lawn strung with festoon lighting hosts pop-ups, watch parties, and live music. A bocce court encourages casual play, while a sunken outdoor pickleball court carved from the former warehouse loading dock creates a stadium-like setting that focuses the action while buffering wind, noise, and views. Custom-built furnishings, lounge platforms, and a small performance stage offer places to gather, spectate, and linger.

Together with 19 indoor courts and a chef-driven food hall, the landscape transforms a once-abandoned retail shell into a vibrant community hub where a quick game can turn into dinner with friends and a former warehouse becomes a place to stay, play, and connect.
