Market Station
How can a vacated alley become a central gathering hub?
A complex process with the city creates a unique and compelling ‘third place’.
The former location of the RTD Market Street Bus Station, Market Station is strategically located adjacent to the 16th Street Mall, and close to the activity of Denver Union Station. A key component to the successful integration of this square block mixed-use redevelopment was vacating an alley that ultimately became the social and placemaking spine of the development
Dig Studio designed the central pedestrian paseo alley between 16th and 17th Streets which invites users with a curious and striking landscape environment. The branding of the paseo area as “Base Camp” is reflected by fire pits, outdoor seating areas, picnic tables, custom murals, and a shade structure that displays super-sized USGS Quad maps of the Colorado Mountain areas, activating the paseo as a unique outdoor experience. These elements come together to evoke a highly crafted appearance.
Dig Studio also designed four roof-top decks to provide on-site amenities for residential and hospitality tenants.
