How can access to a popular hiking trail be more accessible and convenient?

Rerouting a trailhead and adding basic hiking amenities created a solution that worked for both nearby residents and hikers

Dig Studio worked with the City of Phoenix to develop a new trail route for the popular Cholla Trail that services the east side of Camelback Mountain. The new, improved route provides a better trail experience for hikers and neighbors. The alignment is now moved away from Cholla Lane and includes a small restroom as well as drinking water. Special attention was given to providing a Sonoran Desert plant palette that will be used to buffer the surrounding neighbors from the trail. Care was taken to screen the realigned trail from adjacent residences with desert vegetation.
