Surprise Parks & Recreation MP
How can natural features become the framework for a city-wide parks and recreation plan?
A web-like, lined system of linear parks and open spaces follows natural and man-made features, with nodes of activity located at key crossroads
The Surprise Parks & Recreation Master Plan establishes goals for recreation amenities and open space so that the city will be able to meet the needs of the population as it continues to grow. Natural features drove the framework for future parks and open spaces. A web-like, lined system of linear parks and open spaces follows natural and man-made features, with nodes of activity located at key crossroads throughout the community. Signature paths, trails and parkways form a community-wide network connecting parks with neighborhoods
Master plan goals include reinvesting in the city's existing parks; promoting active recreation, sports and sports tourism; providing a connected park experience; and pursuing opportunities to create and acquire new parks and open space. By 2030, the goal is to have a total of 1,200 acres of new public parks, which includes one new 200-acre city park, six new 25-acre community parks and 847 acres of open space.
