Truckee River Vision Plan

How can a river corridor plan combine priorities for recreation, mobility, sustainability and open space?

Creating a strategic guide for investment to position recreation, ecological restoration, and future development

In 2023, the Reno City Council allocated $3 million from State and local Fiscal Recovery Fund to enhance the Truckee River Experience. This strategic investment is intended to catalyze a comprehensive plan for the Truckee River and its adjacent lands.

Dig Studio spearheaded a 17-mile-long Truckee River Vision Plan, analyzing the corridor and surrounding lands in both unincorporated Washoe County and the City of Reno, extending from the California State Line to the City of Sparks Border. The study operates under four central pillars: Land Use and Design, Micromobility and Connectivity, Parks and Open Space, and Safety and Sustainability.

Collaborating with partners, Dig Studio actively engaged in robust stakeholder and public participation to hear the needs and desires of current and future users of the corridor. The final vision plan offers a comprehensive summary of existing plans, encapsulating engagement summaries, and outlines a unified, cohesive vision for the future. In addition, it provides an implementation and financing plan, strategically guiding the city in unlocking the full potential of the Truckee River Experience.
