Renovated Steenblik Park re-opens in Salt Lake City
Beloved Steenblik Park re-opens to community fanfare
Salt Lake City's beloved Steenblik Park re-opened on Monday September 21, 2026 with children from the neighborhood rushing to the new play structure to test out the upgrades. Named for Joseph F. Steenblik, an early community builder who lived in the Rose Park area, the park received substantial upgrades over the summer. Designed by Dig Studio, with significant input from the community to ensure its special elements were retained, the new park balances existing whimsy (in large part due to the bronze "Dairy Cats") with new improvements that reflect community desires. As the first park to be upgraded with funds from a voter-approved bond in 2022, we're hoping it sets a great precedent of how meaningful upgrades can breathe new life into existing public open space.
The grand opening was covered by a variety of local sources, read The Salt Lake City Tribune article HERE and watch the coverage on ABC4 Utah HERE.
