One-of-a-kind Denver park opens this weekend with BMX, birdwatching and industrial graffiti - Featured in The Denver Post
We’re thrilled to see Carpio-Sanguinette Park and Heron Pond Open Space getting some well-deserved coverage by The Denver Post. Days ahead of the Grand Opening, which happened Saturday, September 26, 2026, The Denver Post detailed the project's highlights and story. Carpio-Sanguinette Park and Heron Pond Open Space is an 80-acre regional nature park in Denver’s Globeville neighborhood that reclaims former industrial land along the South Platte River for habitat, recreation, stormwater management, and community gathering.
It has been many years in the making, and we're excited to finally celebrate its opening and see the community embrace all it has to offer, including trails, a playground, a picnic pavilion, an outdoor amphitheater, a pump track, and more! Read more in The Denver Post HERE.

The well-attended Carpio-Sanguinette Park & Heron Pond Grand Opening event included a variety of speakers celebrating the official opening, including Mayor Mike Johnston.
I’ve worked at Denver Parks & Recreation for 15 years, and 10 of it has been on this project. But it isn’t just a park project; it’s a huge partnership with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, because their enterprise fund helped build it and address a lot of the damage from contamination. That was a huge priority for the neighborhood.”
